Clamp-on DC Ammeter being used with an 80" diameter current clamp.
MER2 DC current clips and current
clamps sense the magnitude and direction of DC current flowing in magnetized
pipe or cable, without interrupting the
circuit. They are calibrated and sold as a set with Swain meters.
MER2 stands for "Magnetic Error
Reduction Doubled." MER2 sensors utilize the newer, patented MER2
sensor technology, which reduces magnetic interference by a factor of 2
or 3 and cuts zero errors by a factor of 2 to 4 compared to Swain
Meter's renowned MER technology. Protected by US Patent 6,323,635 B1.
Two meters are compatible Swain Sensors:
- MER Meter® Digital DC Ammeter
with Magnetic Error Correction
- AutoMer™
Autoranging Digital DC ammeter with Magnetic Error Correction
Two types of MER2 sensors are available:
- MER2 Amp Clips™ are
single-piece, spring loaded sensors, which can be installed and removed by
compressing a handle. Clips range in size from 3/4” to
6” diameter.
- MER2 Amp Clamps™ are larger
sensors. They are manufactured as matching
half-circles, which are bolted together around the conductor
to perform
measurements. Clamps range in size from 6” to 60” diameter. Custom sizes can be
produced on demand.
Features
- MER2 DC Amp Clips and Amp Clamps
are highly accurate when measuring
direct current with a non-contact Swain meter. They are constructed to
reduce errors due to non-uniform magnetic fields common on steel
pipe, near rebar, or near the battery in cars and trucks. Zero
offset error is generally less than one quarter than with MER DC Amp
Clips and Amp Clamp.
- Clamps can work in a desert or 700
ft under water with optional waterproof connectors and extensions.
